ZERO WASTE SATURDAYS

BIG BASIN SPIKE

The second Spike crew is back at Big Basin State Park, working hard to reopen trails that were closed by the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire. They dedicate 10 days at a time to this important work. Keep it up! Check out more photos of their progress here.

AMERICORPS TERM OF SERVICE: COMPLETE

Congratulations to Belen Reyes, Devinci Tran, Jamie Rodriguez Nuno, Fernando Rodriguez (not pictured), and Joel Plascencia Hernandez (not pictured) for completing their term of service for AmeriCorps! Your hard work and service to the community have made a positive impact. Way to go!

CALIFORNIA NATURALIST: DAY 1 FUN FACTS

During day one of CalNat, corpsmembers explored the Coyote Hills Regional Park. The group learned about many plants and the variety of cultures that lived in these parks. Did you know the Tuibun Ohlone Tribe still resides in Fremont, Newark, and Union City? Corpsmembers learned the type of plant the tribe relied on to make their homes, boats, sleeping mats, and many other things. They purposely created cracks or holes on their tule boats to allow water to exit them and not stay inside to avoid sinking! The more you know.
